2017 IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship

Jeremy Lalrinnunga IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championships 2017

Indian weightlifters participated in IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2017 and also managed to win 4 medals out of the championship.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga, India’s brightest hope in weightlifting for future won three silver medals in men’s 56kg category while Navi Gulam clinched the bronze medal in men’s 62kg category.

Total 12 Indian (6 men and 6 women) weightlifters participated in the championship.

  • Women’s 44kg

Konsam Ormila Devi, who participated in Group B finished at 8th spot with the total lift of 132Kg (55kg in Snatch and 77kg in Clean and Jerk).

  • Women’s 58kg

Mane Trupti Sanjay lifted a total weight of 165kg to conclude the championship on 22nd place, while another Indian girl in the same category, Yumnam Shilheinganbi Chanu finished on 25th place with the total lift of 160kg.

  • Women’s 63kg

Otshangbam Umeshwori Devi lifted 74kg in Snatch and 90kg in C&J to take her total to 164kg, which was only good to give her 18th position at IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2017.

  • Women’s 69kg

Kale Nikeeta Valmik’s performance of 160kg gave her 13th rank in the women’s 69kg category.

  • Women’s 75kg

Potshawarepam Sapana Devi, participating in Group B of the tournament, lifted a total weight of 153kg which ensured her 18th rank.

  • Men’s 56kg

India’s best hope in the tournament, Jeremy Lalrinnunga opened the medal account for the country after clinching three silver medals in men’s 56kg category (Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total) at World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2017. He lifted a total weight of 240kg (110kg in Snatch and 130kg in C&J).

Zakhuma, who participated in the same category finished 14th after lifting 212kg.

  • Men’s 62kg

Navi Gulam gave India another moment of cheer after grabbing bronze medal in men’s 62kg category (Clean & Jerk), he lifted 148 kg in C&J while failing in his all other attempts of Snatch.

Muthupandi Raja grabbed the 12th position after lifting a total weight of 244kg.

  • Men’s 77kg

Abhishek Poonia, who was in Group C, finished the championship at 22nd place after lifting a total weight of 250kg.

  • Men’s 69kg

Varun Ragala also had a poor show at IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2017 as he only managed to loft 259kg which gave him a 21st place among all other weightlifters.
