It was somewhat a disappointing show for the Indian paddlers at Table Tennis Asian Cup 2017 as none of the athletes expect Manika Batra made it to the knockout stage.

  • Men’s Singles:

India’s most decorated table tennis player, Achanta Sharath Kamal failed to win even a single match and lost his all three matches at the Table Tennis Asian Cup 2017. He lost to Jun Mizutani of Japan by 1-3, Lee Sangsu of Korea by 0-3 and Lin Gaoyuan by 0-3 respectively.

Harmeet Desai won a single match during the group stages but failed to make it to the knockout stage of Asian Cup. He lost to T. Padasak of Thailand in a close match by 2-3, followed by another close defeat to Iran’s Alamian Nima by 2-3. The lone win came against Al-Abbad of Saudi Arabia by 3-0.

  • Women’s Singles:

Manika Batra stormed into the knockout stage with 3 wins over S.Suthasini of Thailand by 3-2, Aia Mohamed of Qatar (3-0), Neda Shahsavari of Iran by 3-0 respectively.

However, she was shattered in the knockout round by Miu Hirano of Japan by 1-3.
