9 Indians including Deepika kumari, Atanu Das & Abhishek Sharma have made it into the third round of individual events of Archery World Cup Stage-1, Shanghai.
Men’s Recurve :
Atanu Das who was seeded 6th after qualifications got a BYE to third round & now will face 38th seeded Meric Dal of Turkey tomorrow. Vishwas sails through to the third round after defeating Onur Tezel (Turkey) & Li Jialun (China) in the first & second round respectively.
However,46th seeded Indrachand Swami’s challenge was ended by Steve of Netherlands in the second round. Dhaniram also had to face defeat by 0-6 from Chinese Ding.
Women’s Recurve :
Deepika kumari, India’s best hope for a medal sails through to third round after getting BYE in first & second round. She will face Preeti in third round in “All Indian Affair” .
Preeti who got a BYE in first round, defeated Russian archer by 7-3 to book a seat into third round. Another Indians in frame Ankita & Monika had to face defeat by their respective opponents in the second round.
Men’s Compound :
Abhishek Verma, seeded 4th after qualifications got a BYE to third round & will face the challenge of 29th seeded Dejen Sitar from Russia. 17th seeded Chinna Raju also storms into third round by getting the better of Jose Carlos by 143-138.
Gurwinder Singh reached the third round too after defeating his own team mate Amanjeet Singh in a intense contest as both the archers were tied at 147-147 & both of them shoot “9” in tie-breaker, but Gurwinder’s shot was much near to 10 & that’s how he booked his seat to third round.
Women’s Compound :
10th seeded Jyothi got the better of Indonesian archer by 144-136 to book her seat in the third round, she will face Natalia of Russia tomorrow. 12th seeded Divya also sails to third round by defeating French Sandra by 141-137.
However, it was end of the road for Parveena & Snehal, as they were defeated by their respective opponents in second round.
Team matches for both Recurve & Compound category will get underway later today, while Individual matches will resume from tomorrow at Archery World Cup Stage-1, Shanghai.
