Today, it was a flop show from the Indian Archery Team in Stage-1of Archery World Cup as all the 9 individuals got out of the tournament, without entering into the Semifinals. So, the Indian individual challenge came to an end at Archery World Cup without a medal.
Atanu Das, promising young Indian archer lost to Steve Wijler of Netherlands by 5-6 in a Shootout as both shooters were deadlocked at 5-5 at the end of match. Another player Vishwas lost against Furukawa of Japan in third round by 5-6.
Abhishek Verma, seeded 4th after qualifications got a BYE to third round & defeated 29th seeded Dejen Sitar from Russia but fell short in round 4th as he lost against Choi Yonghee of korea. His partner in compound men’s team Srither Chinna Raju lost to Bridger of USA by 147-145 in Round 3.
Guruwinder Singh also lost in round 3 to Demir of Turkey by 147-146 in round 3.
The things were same in women’s compound as 10th seeded Jyothi lost to Natalia of Russia by 142-141 and her partner 12th seeded Divya Dhayal lost to Parisa of Iran by 146-145 in round 3 respectively.
India’s best player Dipika kumari also lost to Ren of Japan by 7-1 in QF. Indian’s medal hope got a set-back after Dipika’s lost, as she was one of India’s best hope for a medal.
Earlier, she defeated her own team mate Preeti by 6-0 in third round.
Now all the medals hope are on the team medal matches of Men’s compound team against the Colombia, they will fight for gold and Indian team will take on USA for Mixed Compound Bronze Medal at Archery World Cup Stage-1, Shanghai .
