India’s mixed compound team finally end the drought of medal by winning the solitary Bronze at Archery World Cup Stage-2, Antalya.
Indian mixed pair of Abhishek Verma & Divya Dhayal knocked out the Italian pair of Marcella & Sergio by 154-153 in a nail-biting contest !
Abhishek & Divya maintained their lead throughout the contest & made sure they don’t give any chance to Italian pair for a comeback. The scores of each round were as follows : (38-37, 39-38, 38-39, 39-39) Total – 154-153.
Whereas, Indian men’s compound team returned empty-handed from the Archery World Cup, losing the bronze play-off to their French opponents.
India had high expectations in the compound team event where they bagged a gold in the World Cup Stage I last month.
But the trio of Abhishek Verma, Chinna Raju-Srither and Gurwinder Singh lost to Pierre-Julien Deloche, Dominique Genet and Fabien Delobelle 227-228 in a closely-fought encounter. It was their bad opening end of 56 against the Frenchmen’s solid 59 out of a maximum 60 that proved costly.
The women’s compound team also lost the bronze medal match 222-227 to Italy.
Divya Dahal, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Snehal Mandhare opened up a 56-54 lead and extended it 112-110 with consistent shootings, but some horrible shots of 8 and 7 in the third round of 54 allowed Marcella Tonioli, Irene Franchini and Viviana Spano to take a crucial 166-168 lead.
Italy came up with a near-flawless 59 in the fourth end to clinch the bronze.
India’s individual campaign was ended in Quarter-finals only, with no men or women in Recurve or Compound category made it to Semi-finals.
