India’s first Commonwealth & Asian Championship medallist Ashish kumar will make a comeback to Asian Gymnastics Championship being held in Thailand .
A total of over 600 gymnasts from 25 countries namely China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korean, the Philippines, North Korea, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq, Kirgizstan, Nepal, Syria, Jordan, and Thailand will take part in the event.
Dipa karmakar, first Indian gymnast to compete at the Olympics is going to miss the tournament due to a knee surgery she underwent last month.
Karmakar shot to fame by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics. She finished fourth in her pet event of vault at the Rio Games. Not having her for the Asian Championships will be a drawback for Indian Team.
However, Asian Games & Commonwealth Games medallist Ashish kumar will lead the Indian Challenge in the absence of Dipa & he is surely India’s best bet for a medal !!
