On the 3rd day of the Asian Youth Athletic Championship, Indian athletic team increased their medal tally to 11 by winning 3 more medals. Indian athletes performed very well as they went on to win 2 Gold and 1 Silver medal.
In 10,000m walk race Indian Athlete Sanjay Kumar won the gold medal with the timing of 45:30.39. He won the race by a margin of 17 sec as his opponent at 2nd place recorded the time of 45:47.41.
He missed the Asian youth record of 44:00.87 by 1 minute and 30 seconds.
In another event of discus throw India managed to win 2 medals; 1 Gold and 1 Silver. Gold was won by Abhay Gupta with a throw of 54.47 m which saw the previous record of Sajjad Hassen’s ( Iran) 53.06 smashed by more then 1m . Silver was won by another Indian Sahil Silwal with a throw of 54.58 .
Medley Relay race qualifying rounds also saw Indian team dominating the event as they end the Heat at 1st place with the timing of 1:55.72 followed by Chinese Taipei who finished finished 2nd with the timing of 1:56.16. 3rd place was attained by Kazakhstan with timing of 1:58.73.
India is currently on 3rd position at medal tally with 11 medals (4 Gold, 4 Silver & 3 Bronze) . Just a Gold behind Chinese Taipei who stays at 2nd position with 10 medals ( 5 Gold, 4 Silver & 1 Bronze). China is way ahead on 1st position with 25 medals (12 Gold, 9 silver & 4 Bronze).
Tomorrow will be the 4th and final day of championship and India would be looking for a better place in the medal tally than the previous time. Indian contingent is looking promising as more events are lined up for tomorrow 200m (boys and girls), Medley race (boys and girls), and Javelin throw.
