Swiss master Roger Federer becomes the first man to clinch 20 Grand Slam Titles after defeating the 6″6 tall Croatian Marin Cilic in a thrilling Australian Open Final.

World no.2 Federer got the better of his Croatian opponent by {6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1} in a match which lasted formore than 3 long hours.

It was the first time Federer defended a title successfully since 2007 and 2008, when he retained the US Open. He also becomes the joint-most decorated Australian Open winner with six Grand Slam wins.

It was a easy first set for Federer as he won it comfortably by 6-2 in just 24 minutes, second set proved to be more competitive as both the players hold on to their serves & stretched it into the tie-breaker where Croatian came as a winner.

Swiss star came right back with more power to take the third set & had an advantage in fourth set too but Cilic made a strong comeback to stretch the match into deciding set.

In the final & deciding set, Federer broke twice to have a huge advantage over his opponent & hold on to his nerves to grab the Australian Open 2018 Title in style.

Marin Cilic meanwhile becomes the only player in this tournament to win a set against Roger Federer.

By winning his 20th Grand Slam Title, Federer became the first male to achieve this feat, three women have reached and surpassed the 20 milestone — Margaret Court (24), Serena Williams (23) and Steffi Graf (22).

Also, Federer has the longest streak now of years winning at least one major championship — a Grand Slam, a Masters 1000 event, or a World Tour Finals. This proves how consistent the player is.

Age is just a number for this guy as he also ties the record for the most Grand Slam titles won after the age of 30.

The 36-year-old Federer would not have believed that he could have won yet more Grand Slams a year ago, but after his 2017 Melbourne and Wimbledon wins, the veteran has undergone a renaissance which has propelled him to second in the ATP World rankings.
