Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu continue her incredible run in BWF Dubai Superseries Finals 2017 with straight games victory over World no.2 Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi at the $1 million event.
Sindhu took just 36 minutes to dispatch her Japanese opponent and now leads their head-to-head record 5-2.
World No. 3 Sindhu totally dominated her opponent & beat her by 21-9, 21-13 in just 36 minutes to top group A in women’s singles at the Sheikh Hamdan Indoor Stadium here. This was the third & last match of the group stage.
Olympic silver medalist who clinched two Super Series titles this season before winning a silver at the World Championship, will on Saturday face China’s Chen Yufei in the semi-final, who defeated Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon by 21-18, 13-21, 21-18 in a Group B match of BWF Dubai Finals 2017.
Sindhu started the match on a high racing to a 5-0 lead against Japanese. Yamaguchi looked absolutely no match as her shuttles kept going long and Dubai cheered every shot that Sindhu played.
Sindhu entered the opening break at 11-1 & then capitalized on her lead to win the first game comfortably by 21-9 in just 13 minutes.
The second game started on an equal footing with Sindhu and Yamaguchi going neck to neck for the initial four points. At 6-5, both players were engaged in 33 shot rally before Yamaguchi sent it wide. A couple of unforced errors and Sindhu was leading 8-6.
After the break, it was all Sindhu show as Yamaguchi who is known for speed and quick movement, was unable to keep up with Sindhu’s placement & the Indian sealed the match by 21-9, 21-13 to book her spot in the semi-final of BWF Dubai Superseries Finals 2017.
In men’s singles Kidambi Srikanth will play his last group stage match against Chinese World no. 8 Shi Yuqi, it will be a somewhat dead rubber for Indian as he is out of the semi-final contention after loosing two consecutive matches against World no. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Chou Tien Chen.
