India’s Shreaysi Singh wins the first gold medal for India of Day 7 after clinching the first position in women’s double trap event of Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia.

Shreyasi, who won the Silver medal in Glasgow Commonwealth Games, gets a one better this time with the score of 96 points in the finals.

The 26 year old Indian edged out Australia’s Emma Cox in a shoot-off with a score of 96+2 to secure the 12th overall gold for the country. Shreyasi progressed with scores of 24, 25, 22 and 25 in four rounds and registered the same total as Emma Cox with the scores of 23, 28, 27 and 18.

But in the shoot-off it was India who had the last laugh as Shreaysi hold her nerves in the pressure situation to shot 2 of 2 targets but her opponent missed one in the sudden death to settle for silver.

However, Varsha Varman, another Indian participating in the same event missed out of a bronze meda by just one point to Scotland’s Linda Pearson and conclude the event on 4th place.

Earlier, Om Mitharval won the bronze medal in men’s 50m pistol event by shooting 201.1 in the finals to finish third in the eight-man finals at Belmont Shooting Centre.

However, defending champion Jitu Rai, who won a gold medal in this event at 2014 Commonwealth Games Glasgow failed miserably in the finals managed only 105.0 to finish at 8th position.

India will again look to grab a medal in men’s double trap event where Ashab Mohd. and Ankur Mittal will be participating.

With two medals on Day 7 of CWG 2018, Indian medal tally has moved up to 23 (12 Gold, 4 Silver, 7 Bronze)
