Indian weightlifters continue to bring laurels to the nation as Deepak Lather clinched bronze medal in men’s 69kg category at Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia.

Just 18 year old Deepak gave a tough fight to his experienced opponents and lifted a total weight of 295 kg (136kg in Snatch and 159kg in Clean & Jerk).

Gareth Evan from Wales won the gold medal by lifting 299 kg in total (136 in Snatch & 163 in C&J) while Silver medal went to Sri Lanka’s Indika C. Dissanayake Mudiyanselage (297kg), who was leading during the half way.

Lather, who hails from Delhi, failed to lift his last Clean and Jerk attempt of 162kg, which could have ensured him of a silver medal.

The Games Record of this men’s 69kg category has been held by India’s Katulu Ravi Kumar who lifted a grand total of 321 kg during Delhi Commonwealth Games, later he moved on to higher weight category.

Weightlifting is proving out to be a successful event from the Indian prospect as all four medals till now have come from weightlifting only and Deepak Lather, being just a teenager has a bright future ahead.
