That’s the verdict of Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, who says the four-time F1 champions both had strong cars as their disposal.
Hamilton wrapped up his fourth World Drivers’ Championship at October’s Mexican Grand Prix.
And he did so after title rival Vettel failed to finish in the top two at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
Hamilton ultimately ended the 2017 campaign with a clear margin of 46 points between himself and Vettel.
And Ricciardo has now unpacked how he believes the Mercedes man was able to beat Vettel to the F1 title.
“Lewis’s season – I respect that,” said Ricciardo.
“He had a great car, but I think Seb’s car was also as good and Lewis just maintained a cooler head, a better level of consistency and composure.
“You have to respect that.
“He was always very fast and I think he drove a very good season.”
Hamilton and co. return to F1 action when the 2018 season starts in Australia next March.
And Vettel will be hoping for a repeat of his win at this year’s race in Melbourne
