Daniel Ricciardo wants his future decided before Christmas

Daniel Ricciardo wants his future decided before Christmas

Ricciardo has two years remaining on his contract following the season finale in Abu Dhabi at the weekend.

And he is unsure whether he is to stick with his current team or move onto pastures new.

The 28-year-old had a disappointing season finishing in fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship.

The Aussie driver wants to make sure that he has a better shot at challenging Lewis Hamilton at the top when he returns to action in the new year.

But to do so he may have to move to a rival manufacturer such as Ferrari or Mercedes.

“The peak years of my career are probably the next deal I’ll sign,” he said. “I want to make sure I maximise that with my driving ability.”“I’m sure there will be a few discussions in the next week or two, especially with the team.“Once I get home and over Christmas, I want to switch off from racing.“I would like to know something earlier.”

However, Ricciardo insists that he is not searching for a new deal just for a pay rise.

“It’s not about the offer, it’s about who is going to have the best car for 2019,” Ricciardo added.“I don’t want to be too clever and hope I have every option possible.”
