Gagan Narang bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on a medal in the 10m air rifle event to clinch the silver medal in 50m rifle prone , Annu Raj Singh secured a Bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol competition. in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship .
The 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist managed a total of 246.3 in the final to finish behind Australia’s Dane Sampson, who scored a total of 247.7. India’s Swapnil Kusale bagged the bronze with a total of 225.6
Narang scored 617.6 after 60 shots while Swapnil outshone his decorated team-mate with a score of 619.1. Gold medalist Dane Sampson of Australia topped the qualifying with a Commonwealth record of 624.3. Sushil Ghalay, India’s third contestant shot 614.1 to finish 10th among the 22 participants
The experienced Annu Raj Singh secured the women’s 25m pistol bronze behind Aussies Lalita Yauhleuskaya and Elena Galiabovitch..
The 2010 CWG gold medallist shot a total of 28 in the finals to finish third.
In the women’s 25m Pistol event, all three Indians have made it to the final with Annuraj Singh and Rahi Sarnobat finishing second and third respectively in the qualifying with a score of 578. Heena Sidhu, who won the gold in 10m Air Pistol event, was the fifth best qualifier with a score of 571. Heena and Rahi did make the final, but finished fifth and sixth respectively. Heena lost out in the shoot off after pipping Rahi by a point.
India have now won 10 medal in this Commonwealth Shooting Championship . This event is also test event for next year Commonwealth Shooting Championship .
