Chelsea fans around the world are waking up to a shocking news, just like the Barcelona fans did. While the news for Barca fans was about their club’s twitter account being hacked, for Chelsea faithful it’s the news of Antonio Conte reportedly set to be sacked.
SportBild reports suggest that Chelsea’s Marina Granovskaia held talks with the former Borussia Dortmund manager, Thomas Tuchel and has offered him the Chelsea job. The German was sacked by Borussia Dortmund after the 2016/17 season got over.
Conte eased the pressure on himself with a crucial 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday after a chaotic summer had thrown his future into doubt.
The report says Chelsea are attracted to his incorporation of young players and feel he would be a good fit at Stamford Bridge.
Conte’s relationship with Granovskaia is said to be fractious after a summer spent complaining about transfer activity and the infamous text message sent to Diego Costa.
Tuchel, who would be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, left Borussia Dortmund in May after two seasons following a falling out with the club.
The 43-year-old left just three days after leading Dortmund to victory in the DFB-Pokal final.
Another candidate being considered is former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.
But the fact he is not a fluent English speaker has put Tuchel in pole position to replace Conte at the Premier League champions.
Chelsea have had an up and down start to the season, losing their Premier League opener against Burnley before beating Tottenham at Wembley last Sunday.
And before that they were defeated in the Community Shield by Arsenal.
Conte is known to be unhappy with Chelsea’s dealings in the transfer market and wants more signings before the transfer window shuts on August 31.
Chelsea will take on Everton this Sunday but before that, they have some transfer business to take care of. The Blues have been linked with moves for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Danny Drinkwater, Jamie Vardy, Virgil Van Dijk and Cedric Soares.
