India got off to a brilliant start at Indonesian Masters 2018 after Indian young pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pulled off a major upset by defeating no.8 seeds and World No. 10 duo of Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko of Japan in a first round match that lasted just 35 minutes.
India’s top men’s doubles pair who are currently placed at 32nd in the world rankings gave no chance at all to their opponents & won the match in straight sets by 21-15, 21-17 at this BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
It was Japan’s duo of Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko who had the advantage coming to the match as the pair had reached the finals of the Japan Open, the Dutch Open and the China Masters besides winning the US Open and the Austrian Open.
But the Indian pair had other plans & totally dominated the first set by winning 21 points from 36. In the second set, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty gave no chance to their opponents & took a massive lead of 7-2 but conceding 5 straight points brought the match on level at 10 all.
The young Indian pair hold their nerves in the last moments of the set & won three straight points to book their place in second round of Indonesian Masters 2018.
The pair will next meet the winner of the first round clash between the 19th ranked pair of Liao Min Chun-Su Ching Heng and qualifiers Akbar Bintang Cahyono-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.
Sameeer Verma crashes out of Indonesian Masters 2018
India’s men singles badminton player Sameer Verma knocked out from the tournament after losing out to Japan’s 21st ranked Kazumasa Sakai in a three set thriller 16-21, 21-12, 10-21.
Later in the day, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap and the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy will be in action.
