Vincent Kompany made Champions League come back for Manchester City after long 650 days against Basle but insists Man City captain is happy with Team condition.
The City captain last featured in Europe’s competition against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on May 4, 2016, but showed no signs of rust as he helped them to one side victory in their round of 16 first leg.
Kompany has been more delightful by injury over the last few seasons but has been fully fit for Pep Guardiola’s men since mid-November and was pleased to be back playing football at the highest level.
Leroy Sane, David Silva, and Fabian Delph all returned last night in the Champions League win over Basel.
Gabriel Jesus is due to return in the next fortnight while Yaya Toure has come back from the illness that has ruled him out of recent squads.

Manchester City will not reduce their speed against Basle despite winning the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie 4-0 in Switzerland on Tuesday, according to club captain Vincent Kompany.
“The fact of the matter is that we would not be in four competitions if so many players were not being able to perform at this level,” after the 4-0 win City Captain said.“Getting numbers back is crucial now because we have 11 important Premier League games to play, with the League Cup final, the FA Cup, and also Champions League.
“It’s just not possible to do them all with the same playing 11.”
Kompany added: “In Champions League, 4-0 away from home is a good result. We should never say we can afford to miss chances but the key thing for me was the effort was just as good as in all previous games.“Our intensity in covering the ball, our movement and more importantly our passing, – there were so many good things to take out of this game. We could be more clinical but it was 4-0. We have got a return game to have another good performance.”
Kompany has been plagued by injury over the last few seasons but has been fully fit for Pep Guardiola’s men since November and was pleased to be back playing football at the greater level.
The Belgian international, said: “I am happy with Team condition. It’s a cliche but our mindset is just focus on the next game. We have just as much desire to play well against Wigan as we did against Basel. There will be no difference.“We will go into the League Cup final against Arsenal with the same kind of preparation and self-belief as we did for the game today and as long as that doesn’t change, and the intensity stays at that level, every game is going to be more exciting.
