Raheem Sterling has been voted the Etihad Player of the Month for August.
The England winger scored crucial late goals against Everton and Bournemouth to ensure the Blues remained undefeated in the first three games of the campaign.
The Blues winger has come in for widespread criticism in the last week after being taken out at half time of England’s win in Malta, and dropped for their game against Slovakia last night.
He was also linked – incorrectly – with a possible swap deal for Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez ahead of transfer deadline day last week, but the rumours are still on that Chelsea & Arsenal would like to battle if Man City offload Sterling.
But being named as City’s best player for the opening three games of the season came as no great surprise.
Sterling went on as a sub against Everton with the team 1-0 down and reduced to ten men, and changed the course of the game, his direct running forcing the Toffees onto the back foot before he volleyed in the equaliser.
Manager Pep Guardiola said that if Sterling could score more goals he would be “incredible”.
“He has the ability to go one against one, to attack, to be aggressive, to do what we are looking for,” he said.
“We played to attack the central defenders and Raz has this ability. If he had a little bit more sense of the goal, he would be one of the most incredible players.”
Raheem becomes the top scorer for the Man City ahead of Jesus & Aguero .
