Match Referee Michael handed Sergio Aguero something when he left the pitch vs Arsenal

Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Arsenal was extra special for Sergio Aguero.

It was something of a homecoming afternoon for the Argentine, who became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in midweek, surpassing Eric Brook with his strike against Napoli.

The Argentina forward started the game in favour of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, as Man City took the lead in the first half through Kevin De Bruyne.

After the break Aguero changed his boots – removing a bright gold pair worn to commemorate becoming City’s all-time leading goalscorer, for an all-black pair.

The only question mark against him when he was removed from the field of play on 62 minutes was why he was carrying a little black box.

On his way off the pitch, Aguero was seen holding onto a little black box.

No one could work out what it was, as many started to make a number of possible – and ridiculous – suggestions.

One fan claimed it was a phone, another a pager, while a third said it was the little device a restaurant gives you when you’re waiting for a table…

The device was in a fact the battery pack for the referee’s microphone. Quite why Aguero was holding onto it though is another story.

FANS WERE CONFUSED

It certainly got fans talking, with many making rather outlandish suggestions about what he was doing. Some Arsenal fans even suspected Oliver was giving him a gift:
