Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo said his Red Bull team is in the best shape it’s been since he joined the Bulls, heading into season opener Grand Prix in Melbourne.
After Mark Webber announced his retirement from Formula One, Ricciardo was confirmed as his replacement at Red Bull Racing for 2014. In his first season with Red Bull, Ricciardo finished third in the championship with his first three Formula One wins, in Canada, Hungary, and Belgium, being the only non-Mercedes driver to do so.
Ricciardo Finish 5th in last season with 200 Points, 5 points behind Kimi Räikkönen.
After some promising lap times in pre-season testing, Ricciardo is set for a strong showing in Melbourne.
“We are certainly more ready than we were last year, and probably every year before that since I’ve been with the team,” Ricciardo said.
“We did a lot of laps and I think the pace of the car is not bad, but we still need some things to improve, which is normal. But, yes, going to the race and having the confidence to push the car to the limit and push the engine a little bit. I think we are much more confidence now than last few seasons.
“I think Ferrari and Mercedes will be quicker. Some teams put in some quick times during testing, so Melbourne is going to be more interesting this time.”
Ricciardo retires in last year seasoning opener race at Melbourne so he did not want to do same this time.He finishes 4th in 2016 season which was the best result so far for Australian in home race.
Daniel said the new Red Bull car proved to be quick straight away, something they struggled with in last season.
“Sometimes you put things on the car and it doesn’t work but most things we put on the car seemed to help in second week of testing, which is encouraging.”
