Mercedes Team Boss Toto Wolff believes reigning Formula one Champion Lewis Hamilton is almost certain of signing a new contract with his current team.
Hamilton who has won three F1 World Drivers’ Championships out of four with Mercedes has less than 12 months available on his ongoing contract.
There were some rumours going on that the British driver will left Mercedes due to his past bad relationship with former team-mate Nico Rosberg but his partnership with Bottas is quite steady & Wolff is quite sure of expanding the agreement with the former.
“It’s only a matter of time before we seal it and put the signature under the contract.”
While Hamilton has number of interests out of racing but still leaving the track would be the toughest decision for him to make & it seems he will finish off it in style with Mercedes.
But Wolff provided a hint on Hamilton’s retirement as he believes there is still six or seven years left for the British star.
“We are trying to keep our eyes open to identify the next Lewis Hamilton for in five, six or seven years, when Lewis eventually decides he has had enough of Formula 1,” Wolff said.
“We are approaching this with a completely open mindset.
“We are even looking at karting. We are supporting a young Italian boy who is barely 12 years old.
“We enjoy doing that. It is just about identifying the talent, no matter where they are at the moment.”
Mercedes is huge favorites to retain the championship in 2018 but according to Wolff, they are taking nothing for granted & many other teams can give them tough competition.
“Everything starts at zero,” Wolff added.
“We are happy and proud of the four double titles [drivers’ and constructors’] but there is no guarantee of the fifth.”
