The Mercedes driver has had a strong first season with the German manufacturer as he finished third in the Drivers’ Championship.
Bottas rode home in pole position at the season finale in Abu Dhabi yesterday, clinching his third win of the season.
However, it could have all been so different for the Finnish driver.
Former Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg surprisingly retired after winning the title last year and Bottas was drafted in from Williams to team up with Hamilton.
And he has since gone from strength-to-strength, but he does not think he can challenge Hamilton for the title next season.
“It has been a bit crazy,” Bottas said.
“But life is. This has been an incredible season for me, and I have learned so much with Lewis and been able to find something every single race.
“I don’t say I know yet how to win the title because I have never done that, but it was a good performance in qualifying yesterday and again today, so I’m really looking forward to next year to see what it brings.”
Hamilton wrapped up his fourth Drivers’ Championship with three races to go.
And he finished the season in second place in Abu Dhabi, behind his Mercedes team-mate.
On the podium, Bottas held his emotions back but he admits he was absolutely delighted with the win.
“Just because we don’t show emotions doesn’t mean we don’t have any< Bottas added.
“I’ve had so much support from my family, and while I can’t show that emotion to you, I do have my feelings.”
