18th Asian Games invitational Tournament | Basketball

8th Asian Games Invitational Tournament 2018 is a test event for 2018 Asian Games from 9 Feb – 15 Feb 2018.

Indian Men’s Team will take part in Asian Game Test Event in basketball Tournament Event. India Won Silver Medal after losing to Indonesia in a Close Final Encounter.

  • Arvind was Top Scorer For India With 72 Points in 4 Games. His best performance was Against Thailand where he has 27 Points, In final also Arvind was Top scorer for India with 25 Points
  • Yadwinder Singh (49 Points), Joginder (45 Points) and Satnam Singh (45 Points) also perform brilliantly in the whole competition.
  • Joginder Singh Also has 27 Assist, Highest Among Indian.

India at Asian Games invitational Tournament

India lost the first group match to Thailand in a close encounter by 72-79 but came back strongly to defeat the mighty Indonesians by 66-55 in the second rubber. Joginder Singh was the leading goal-scorer with 19 points to his name.

In the last group’s match, Indian Basketball team proved too good for Timor Leste & knocked them out by 145-50 to qualify for the final of invitational tournament. Ravi Bhardwaj scored 18 points to lead the way, followed by Thuruthel Thomas, Kasi Rajan Muruthan & Rishne Gowda who scored 16 points each.

In the final, India seemed to be off-color & lost the close match to Indonesia by 68-78. It was difficult to choose between the two teams but the Indonesian players controlled their nerves pretty well to take the trophy home. Aravind was the top-scorer in final for the Indian team with 25 points, followed by Joginder Singh (15pts).

Despite the mediocre performance of Indian team at  Asian Games invitational Tournament, it will prove to be a vital experience as the team will move to Gold Coast, Australia for the Commonwealth Games 2018.

The tournament will be the real test for India as the big teams like Australia & New Zealand will be there. The Games are scheduled to take place from 4th to 15th April 2018.
