How many of we know that there is an African Tribe living in India over 200 years ? Maybe no one , same as our government who forget about the Sports Programme they planned in 1980s to use the strength and power of Siddi Tribe to put India on the Global Sports Mark , as we all know Africans are pretty good in moreover strength & endurance sports .
According to the tribals, there is a long history to their presence in India. “The Nawab of Junagadh had once visited Africa where he fell in love with an African woman. They got married and she moved to India with him , She came to India with a hundred slaves and since then we have been based in Gujarat only,”.
In the 1980s, spearheaded by the then sports minister Margaret Alva, the Sports Authority of India started an athletic program for the Africans, whom they saw as medal-winning hopeful . However , due to some administrative failures & political issues the whole plan get a big set back . The programme was a a big failure and it gets all vanished in a flash and takes away all the hopes for Siddi community to express themselves to the whole world and represent India as an Indian .
Maybe ,if the setup had gone in the right way without any issues , maybe we could have seen ourselves as a sporting nation in 2020s , maybe the condition of Siddi community would have been much better then what they are suffering nowdays , maybe this poor and untold community would have express themselves in this country and to the world too but maybe this was never written to happen .
India is still fighting for atleast one Gold in Olympics and mark themselves as a sporting nation & Siddi community are still fighting from poverty , backwardness & racism they are getting from we Indians .
Hope, the things will get good both for India & Siddi community ( The African-Indian untold tribe).
