India’s women archery team consists of Divya Dhayal, Muskan Kirar and Jyothi Surekha Vennam have secured a silver medal in the compound team event of Antalya 2018 Archery World Cup Stage-2.
Indian team lost the Gold medal match to Chinese Taipei by the score of 228-231 (57-59, 55-58, 59-57, 57-57) and settled for second position in the event while bronze medal went to korea who demolished Turkey by 227-224.
Earlier, the women team defeated Turkey and South Korea in the semi-finals and Quarter-finals respectively to book their spot in the final.
India will have another shot on the medal today, when Jyothi Vennam and Abhishek Verma will be up against the pair from Belgium in compund mixed team bronze medal play-off.
In the individual section, Indian archers had a really bad outing as no compound archer was able to qualify for the medal round in both men’s and women’s individual matches.
Abhishek Verma, lost his quarter-final match to Iran’s Mahboubi Matbooe by 146-147 in a close encounter while the other male archers, Sangampreet Singh Bisla, Rajat Chauhan and Raju Srither didn’t even make it to the third round of the Antalya Archery World Cup 2018.
In the women’s section, Jyothi lost her fourth round match to Chen Yi-Hsuan in a tie-breaker 144-144 (10-10), her opponent’s arrow was close to the target which sealed the match for Chinese Taipei’s archer.
Muskan Kirar, Madhumita kumari and Divya Dhayal bowed out earlier in the competition.
In the recurve section, India’s women team consists of Deepika kumari, Promila Diamary and Ankita Bhakat will take on Chinese Taipei for the bronze-medal playoff tomorrow.
