Asian Games: India bags first bronze medal in 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event Games: India bags first bronze medal in 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event

Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar wins India’s first bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team at the Jakabaring International Shooting Range, situated in Palembang, the other city hosting the Asian Games along with Jakarta.

In the newly-added event, the Indian pair shot a total of 429.9 points to grab the 3rd place while gold medal went to Chinese Taipei’s pair of Lin Yingshin and Lu Shaochuan with 494.1 points (New Games Record) and silver medal went to China’s pair of Zhao Ruozhu and Yang Haoran with 492.5 points.

Both Chandela and Ravi started strong, never falling out of the top three in the first 30 shots, and had a chance for gold medal too but last few shots of low 9’s dropped India to the bronze medal position.

Chandela and Ravi Kumar have the experience of shooting together. At this year’s first ISSF World Cup in Mexico, they had finished after topping the qualification rounds, shooting a combined total of 837.9.

India finished on second place of the qualifications with the total score of 835.3, Ravi kumar scored a brilliant 420.0 points while Apurvi had a decent outing with 415.3 points to her name. South korea qualified on first place with the total of 836.7 points while Mongolia took the 3rd place with 832.1 points.

Meanwhile, India’s 10m air pistol mixed team of Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma narrowly missed a final berth as they finished sixth in qualification with 759 points. Kazakhstan had the same score but had more inner 10s and they advanced to the five-team final.

Shooting has always been one of the sports that has captured the imagination of the Indian fans far and wide and the Indian shooters will look to better their record on the continental level, after a successful outing at the Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia, earlier this year.
