Asian Squash Championship: Day 2 roundup, 6 Indians enter Quater finals

It was the day 2 of 19th Asian Squash Championships 2017 and 6 Indians entered quarter finals proving it to be a good day for the hosts.

In the men’s department there were total 5 Indian matches today and 3 were won by Indians to enter the QF.

First match of men was in afternoon of  Velavan Senthilkumar against Yuen Chee Wern  which the young champ lost very badly by 11/1, 11/1, 11/8.

Next up was 15th seed Harinder Pal Sandhu, who shocked the crowd by defeating 6th  seed Abdulla Al Tamimi the game went on till 5th set and Harinder emerged victorious. He was then accompanied by Vikram malhotra who defeated Muhammad Addeen Idrakie in 3 straight sets.

Last but not the least 2nd seed Saurav Ghoshal defeated 16th seed Mohammad Alsarraj in straight sets. Mahesh_Mangaonkar and Velavan_Senthilkumar were the ones who suffered losses.

In the women’s there were total of 5 Indian matches and same as the men’s 3 were won by Indian women’s.

2nd seed Joshna Chinappa won the match against 13th seed Jemyca Aribado but the opponent gave a tough fight to the 2nd seed as the scores were 11-7 11-9 11-7.

4th seed Dipika Pallikal also proved her presence by winning the pre quarter and moving into the quarter along with 9th seed Sachika Ingale who also won by dominating the opponent.

Urwashi Joshi and Sunaya Kuruvilla suffered losses.

Both the men and women contingent are looking good and it could be the first time that some Indian may win the Asian Championship ending the drought of 36 years.
