After winning 3 Silvers & a Bronze yesterday, India continued their impressive run on Day 4 of Asian Wrestling Championship after 2 wrestlers storms into finals, assuring India 2 more silvers.
Bajrang Punia (65 kg) in Men's freestyle category & Sarita (58 kg) in women's freestyle category marches into finals after winning their respective semi-final matches.
Bajrang Punia who has replaced legend Yogeshwar Dutt in 65 kg, didn't disappoint his idol as he storms into finals by overcoming the challenge of kukwang kim (North Korea) in a very intense match by 3-2.
Kim won the first 2 points, but Bajrang hold his nerves and bounced back quite creditably in crucial time to snatch the victory by 3-2, assuring himself atleast a Silver from Asian Championship.
Earlier, in the quaters he outplayed Nasiri of Iran, winning the match by 7-5. In finals, Bajrang will be up against Seungchul of Korea for the Gold Medal match.
Sarita who dropped her weight from 60 kg to 58 kg, impressed everybody with her wrestling as she won her both matches, Quaters & semis with Technical Superiority.
In semis she just dominated Thi Huong of Vietnam to win the match by 12-0, didn't gave her opponent a chance to bounce back and score some points. Quaters had the same story as she crushed the challenge of Uzbekistan's wrestler by 10-0.
In finals, Sarita will meet Aisuluu from kyrgyzstan, who was defeated by Sakshi Malik in Rio Olympic's bronze-medal play off.
However, 2016 Asian Champion Sandeep Tomar had to retire from his Qualification's match as he got injured when he was trailing the match by 6-5.
Sandeep Tomar was India's one of the best bet for Gold medal & watching him retire in his first round was certainly a heartbreak for wrestling fans.
Rio Olympic medallist Sakshi's husband Satywart kadian (97kg) disappoints everyone as he lost his Qualification's match to Magomed of Uzbekistan by 2-2 ( last 2 points were scored by Uzbek) .
India has already won 7 medals (3 Silvers & 4 Bronze) but a Gold is sill needed, all the eyes will be on Bajrang Punia & Sarita to end the drought of Gold for India in Asian Wrestling Championship.
