Asian Youth Athletics Championship : India bags 6 medals including two “Golds” to finish Day 2

Asian Youth Athletics Championship

2nd day of 2nd Asian Youth Athletic Championship proved to be a eventful day for Indian contingent as they bagged 6 medals comprising 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze in various events held today.

The most surprising was the Gold medal of Gurindervir Singh in 100m. He has become the first athlete from India to earn a gold medal in 100m at an Asian level event. He covered the distance of 100m in 10.77sec. It has been a great achievement for him as well as for the country.

Then another gold medal was won in track and field event of 800m by Abhishek Mathew by covering the distance in 1:54.991. 2nd position were attained by a srilankan athlete who gave a tough fight till the as his timing was 1:54.993 and 3rd by a Chinese with timing of 1:55.25.

In 400m the performance of Indian athletes could be better and there could be 2 medals from this event one in men category and another in women category. In men’s Akshay Nain attained 3rd position and secured a bronze, where as his partner Manish was 8th. In women’s category D. Jyothika achieved 4th position with a timing 56.57 and missed the 3rd position by 1 sec.

Asian Youth Athletic Championship: Youth brigade manages to win 2 medals

Women’s did well in 3000m as Seema secured 3rd place with timing of 10:05.27 and her partner Poonam Dinkar was 4th with the timing of 10:17.03.

Indian athlete Mohit did very well as he secured 2nd position in Shot put and Decathlon events and bagged 2 silver medals. In shot put he missed the top place by 1 mt as his throw was of 18.82 and throw of 1st position was of 19.40.

In Decathlon he scored 5976 points which were sufficient for a silver medal. The difference between him and athlete at 1st position was just of 6 points.

The total tally for India went to 8 medals comprising 2 Golds, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze.
