Bhawna Jat clocks a timing of 1:29.54 in National Race Walking championship to achieve the Tokyo OLympic qualification mark.
The seventh edition of the National Marching Championships of India, on the road (3rd international edition), valid for access to the Olympic Games, is going (15th and 16th of February), in Ranchi.From the foreign contingent, athletes from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives are taking part.
Bhawna batter the National record by more then two minutes which was set by Baby Soumya in 2018 (1.31.29). Priyanka Goswami narrowly miss Oly Q as she clocked 1:31.36 to finish second behind Jat.
23 year old from Rajasthan has won national open athletics championship last year in November with new meet record with timing of 1.38.30. she has cut down almost nine minutes from her best timing at national championship to make it Olympic here.
She become second Indian race Walker to qualify for Olympic as Irfan Kolothum Thodi has earn 20km quota in men section. In men unfortunately no indian can cross the Olympics Qualifier mark.
India now have earn 31 Olympic quota and Bhawan was 64th Indian to get the Tokyo ticket. In athletics she earn fifth quota for Indian after Todi, Mix team event,Avinash Sable and mighty Neeraj Chopra.
Men 50km race walk is schedule for tomorrow where also India could expect some Tokyo quota. This is opening event for Indian Athlete this year and has came up with glory.
Next event for Bhawna Jat will be Asian Race walking championship which is schedule for next month, also there is more world event lined up for race Walker. Talking about Jat, she become first Indian women to run 20km in under 90 minutes. She covered 5 km in 22:00, 10 km in 44:22 and 15 km in 67:01.
In men Sandeep Kumar won 20km race walking with timing of 1.21.34. which was 34 short of Olympic Qualification timing of 1.21.00.
