Daniel Ricciardo says Red Bull boss Christian Horner has reassured him of fair fight with team mate Max Verstappen in 2018 after favoritism concerns.
The Red Bull duo of Daniel Ricciardo & Max Verstappen have been talked up by team principal Christian Horner as the best driver pairing in the sport.
Recently, Verstappen signed a new deal with Red Bull till 2020 & Horner is interested to be with the Dutch driver for a longer term & build the team around him.
Also, Verstappen got the upgraded Renault engine before the Australian in the later half of the 2017 season.
Ricciardo in interview with Autosport, told that Horner approached him after the favoritism concerns & explained there will be a fair fight in 2018.
“That is not what you want to hear,” Ricciardo said.
“I didn’t see it in the press but afterwards I found out about Christian’s comment.
“It was because he actually came up to me and cleared it up.
“He said ‘look, if you’ve seen the comments, it’s not out of context but I didn’t want it to come across that way’.
“He said ‘please I don’t want you to think anything like that. We’re fighting for both of you’.
“Max got the updated engine in the last few races, that was the only thing that has ever been different.
“But I don’t have any concern with it. If I did, I would have spoken up about it already.”
Ricciardo said he accepted the explanation provided by Horner & is looking to do the best for the team regardless of his partner.
“Even if the engine is a tenth quicker, the person in me says I’ve just got to drive two tenths better,” he said.
“If I’m good enough, I’ll beat him anyway! I’m confident.
It will be interesting to see how the pair starts 2018 as many eyebrows has been raised about the future of Australian star Ricciardo plus Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has issued an statement that Lewis Hamilton would be “very foolish to underestimate” Daniel Ricciardo in the F1 2018 world championship battle.
