The 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medalist Sanjita Chanu struck her second consecutive gold in weightlifting on the 2nd day of the CWG 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia.
The Manipuri athlete created a Games record in Snatch, lifting a total of 84 kg, and then lifted 108 kg on her way to get to a total lift of 192 kg. Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea grabbed the silver medal after lifting 182 kg (80kg in Snatch and 102 in Clean & Jerk) in total while Canada's Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet took the bronze with 181 kg (81kg in Snatch and 100 in C&j).
Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu has grabbed the second gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2018, a day after Mirabai Chanu won the first gold by smashing three CWG records. Meanwhile, Chanu became the third weightlifter for the country to win a medal at Gold Coast.

The 24 year old weightlifter Sanjita, who hails from Manipur, during her attempts broke Commonwealth Games record in the snatch category with a lift of 84 kg. Chanu surpassed India’s Swarti Singh’s record of 83 kg, which was set during the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Participating in the 53 kg category this time, Sanjita had won gold in Glasgow in 2014 in the 48 kg category.
Earlier, Gururaja won the first medal for India in weightlifting by having the best attempt of 111 kg in snatch and 138 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 249 kg.
Currently India has three medals in 2018 CWG, Two golds and a silver.
