Daniel Ricciardo opens up on 2018 plans and reveals what he thinks of 2017

Daniel Ricciardo opens up on 2018 plans and reveals what he thinks of 2017

DANIEL RICCIARDO has lamented some of his performances in 2017, but he is targeting an even better year with Red Bull.

The Australian managed a career-best nine podiums this season despite being hampered by engine problems.

With just the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to go before the season finishes, Ricciardo explained there is still room for improvement.

“There’s been some great races. Obviously, I would love all 20 to be great and not all 20 have been,” Ricciardo said.”For me, it’s just to assess the year once it’s all settled and then just try to understand what I could have improved. “I’m sure there’s on-track stuff but also off track.”

The 28-year-old’s current contract with Red Bull expires next year, and he has given little reason to believe that he could leave anytime soon.

He continued: “Obviously I give every year a good crack, but give next year a proper crack.”I’ve been pretty pleased with the year. “I’ve still got some improvements to make and I’m looking forward to extracting a bit more from myself.”

Although Ricciardo’s best finish at the Abu Dhabi is fourth, he believes the car is good enough to take the chequered flag on Sunday.

He added: “When you have so much time away from the car in the off-season it helps to sign off with a strong result as it makes you feel like you really deserve a break.“I think we should have a strong car in Abu Dhabi.”I want another win before the season is out and I think we have a decent chance of achieving that.”
