Double Delight for Ankita Raina at ITF Thailand Open

India’s No.1 female tennis player Ankita Raina enjoy double glory at ITF $25k Thailand open. Today she won her First singles title in 2020 season after scoring a comfortable victory over 4th seed Chloe Paquet 6-3,7-5 in the final.

Yesterday Ankita along with Bibiane Schoofs defeated wildcard pair Mananchaya Sawangkaew and Supapitch Kuearum by 6-4,6-2 to clinich double title.

After today’s victory she become second Indian after Sania Mirza to win $10k ITF single Title. Sania Mirza currently lead this list with 14 title.

With this world number 171 is now set to move closer to 150 in world. This is her 6th ITF $25k title, she also have 4 ITF $10k single titles.

27 year old Indian lost only one set in her rout to title,that set loss came in Quarterfinals against waltert of Switzerland. Earlier this month Ankita losses in opening Qualifications round 1 of Australian open.

In Double this was Ankita’s 17th title, Which include One of biggest win of her cerrier that came at 2018 WTA 125K Taipei WTA Challenger along with Karman Thandi. Ankita also have to won two ITF $60k, one ITF $50k, seven ITF $25k, one ITF $15k and five ITF $10k double title.

Ankita also have won bronze medal at 2020 Asian game in women single event.

Ankita Raina set to participate in Fedration cup next, Sania Doubtful.

India will compete with China, Indonesia, Korea, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan in the Asia/Oceania Group I Fedration cup contest. India will play China in their first match. Fedration cup has recently moved out from China to Kazakhstan due to Corona virus treat.

Ankita Raina and Sania Mirza who is returning to team after four year is set to lead team India at fedration cup. But Mirza is not fully recover as she is on three week rest due to Calf Injury. The five-member squad also features Riya Bhatia, Rutuja Bhosle and Karman Kaur Thandi.

Sania mirza was forced to retire mid-way into her women’s doubles first round at the Australian Open due to a calf injury. She also pulled out from mix double.

If Sania didn’t travel to Kazakhstan the. It will be end of her Olympic dream. According to ITF regulations, a player to be eligible should be part of the Davis Cup or Fed Cup team at the time of the draw and present at the tie on a minimum of three (3) occasions during the Olympic Cycle, provided that one of those occasions is in either 2019 or 2020.

Now, Sania has not played Fed Cup since 2016, so even if she competes this year, she does not fulfil the criteria of being present at tie on three occasions. But still ITF may consider that she was on maternity break for two years, so she could not play Fed Cup.

But for that also Sania have to play this year fedration cup.
