After seventh day wait the final equestrian Olympic Rankings are published by International Federation for Equestrian Sports. Fouaad Mirza become first Indian to qualify for olympic in Equestrian in last twenty year.
Double Asian Games medallist equestrian Fouaad Mirza secured an Olympic quota in Eventing after finishing as the top-ranked rider in group G in the qualifiers.
In latest ranking revealed by FEI which include all the result between 1-January-2019 to 31-December-2019 Mirza was best rank rider in South East Asia, Oceania group.
Mirza lost two position in lastest ranking from 465 to 467 but was enough to top the zonal ranking ahead of Hong kong rider Thomas Heffeman who is rank 649 in world.
27 year old have two horses ahead of Thomas. He scored 34 points on his first horse Fernhill Facetime and 30 with his second horse Touchingwood. While Thomas is with only 7 point. These point are very less when we compare with top rank rider but are enough to give Fouaad Mirza place in Tokyo olympic.
Top country from the group have already earned Qualifications as a team. China and Thailand was there with India in group but both the country have earned team Qualifications via Groups F/G team qualification event.
Eventing event will feature total 65 riders in olympic out of which 45 qualify through team Qualifications (15 teams). Apart from India rival Pakistan also earn one olympic spot via Group F (Africa & Middle East). Srilanka also earn their first Tokyo Olympic quota in Jumping event.
There are three discipline in equestrian Eventing, Jumping and Dressage. Out of which India could only qualify in Eventing. India has chance to get quota in Jumping but fedration didn’t send their rider for participation.

Fouaad Mirza is yet to full fill minimum requirements for Olympic Qualification. But the deadline for that is June 2020. He will have to achieve MER between March-June in order to take up the quota he earned as there is no Qualifications event till March.
Mirza have achieve MER(Minimum Eligiblity required) in CCI4*S event and yet to echieve it in CCI4*L and CCI5*L event. Mirza still have four month from march to June.
Arjuna Award winner and Asian Games silver medallist Fouaad Mirza secured Gold in the CCI3*S event in october in Strzegom, Poland.
The road is not all that smooth for the young equestrian as his main horse, Seigneur Medicott with whime he secure two medals in Asian Game suffered injuries earlier this year and he has had to work and train with new horses.
Earlier,Wing Commanders Indrajit Lamba and Imtiaz Anees had participated in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics respectively. Before that All eyes will rest on Mirza as he rides his gallant steed into Tokyo, in the knightly quest for a maiden Olympic medal come July this year.
