India continued their rich goalscoring form in the Asia Cup tournament as they inflicted a heavy 7-1 defeat on Kazakhstan and progressed to the semi-finals of the tournament
Leading the way for another dominating display – which comes after India beat Singapore 10-0, China 4-1 and Malaysia 2-0 to top their pool – were the in-form Gurjit Kaur with three goals and Deep Grace Ekka and Navneet Kaur with two each.
Gurjit Kaur, who found the back of the net in each of the team’s win in the group stages, smashed a hat-trick
Coming into the game on the back of three commanding wins in the group stages, Gurjit opened India’s scoring in the fourth minute when she brought her team level at 1-1 after the Kazakhs surprisingly took lead in the second minute through Verra Domashneva’s strike.
Gurjit then struck again in the 42nd and 56th minute to complete her hat-trick.
In between, goals from Deep Grace Ekka (16th and 41st) and Navneet Kaur (22nd and 27th) put the match beyond 34th-ranked Kazakhstan.
Today’s three goals made Gurjit the leading goal-scorer for India at the Asia Cup with six.
India will play the winner of the Japan v Malaysia quarter-final in the semi-final on Friday, November 3
