India took on Malaysia in the second quarter-finals at Hockey World League Semi-final with a semis berth & a spot in World League Finals at stake.
Despite a loss to Netherlands by 1-3, clearly India was favourites against the lower ranked Malaysia but the things got totally opposite as Malaysia got the better of World ranked India by 3-2.
Oltmans, India Head Coach was clearly not happy with the team’s performance & could be seen frustrated with poor show of Indian Hockey Team.
In the first quarter, Indian team looked a bit off color as they gave Malaysia so many chances & were on back foot for the initial minutes. Malaysia did had chances to score as they got two penalty corners in a quick interval but they failed to capitalise on it & the first quarter went goalless.
Second quarter proved to be more vital for both of the teams & it was Malaysia who drew the first blood at 18th minute as a deflection from Dahiya’s right hand put Malaysia into 1-0 lead.
A minute later, Malaysia gets another penalty corner & Razi Rahim did no mistake to put his side into a 2-0 lead against the favourites Blue Tigers.
India started to bounce back into the game & at 24th minute Ramandeep’s deflection into the net narrow the trail by 1-2 & put India back into the match. Two minutes later, India level the things after Ramandeep scored his second goal of the match after he smashed the ball into the net makes sure there is too much to except in the match.
Four Goals were scored in 2nd Quarter & at the Half time both teams were tie at 2-2.
The third quarter went goal less with both teams trying their best to make chances but no one capitalise the chances into goals.
With just 15 minutes left for the both the teams, Malaysia ends the deadlock after Razi Rahim scored his second goal of the match through penalty corner & put his team ahead by 3-2.
India substituted the Goal-keeper for another man on the pitch to put extra pressure on Malaysian team & find the most necessary equaliser.
But all the things get into vein as Malaysia hold their nerves & defence to cause a major upset of the tournament. With the loss India’s campaign ends at HWL Semi-finals.
