Two important goals from Sunil Chhetri and two timely blocks from Gurpreet Singh were the key moments as Indian Football Team lifts the maiden Intercontinental Cup 2018 title after defeating Kenya on Sunday.

Indian captain Chhetri is the man of the moment for sure and his astonishing pedigree of scoring goals has helped India in defeating mighty Kenyans for the second time in the tournament.

Blue Tigers started the final with full confidence and controlled the ball for most of the time in the first half. A packed house at Mumbai Football Arena got more than its share of thrills as Chhetri drew the first blood through the free-kick.

Anirudh Thapa took his time as players took positions in the box and tapped the ball to the captain who made no mistake to give India a crucial lead in the Intercontinental Cup 2018 final.

Second goal came off a long pass by Anas Edathodika with 29 minutes into the first half. The Kenyan defence were caught ball-watching and Sunil Chhetri’s brace enhanced the lead for India by 2-0.

Later Ovela Ocheng’s impressive shot from 35-yards out flew towards the Indian goal but Gurpreet made a massive leaping save to deny Kenyans a goal.

India enjoyed a stunning Intercontinental cup campaign winning 3 of their four games without conceding even once and it was the captain who led from front.

With two more goals in the final, Chhetri who has 102 international matches to his name, matched the Messi’s stats of scoring 64 international goals in 124 appearances, becoming world’s joint-second highest active international goalscorers in football.
