India is all set to bid for 2030 Asian games edition, last time India hosted these games in 1982 .
The government gave a go-ahead to the bidding process following a meeting between Vijay Goel, minister of youth affairs and sports and Indian Olympic Association president N Ramazchandran.
India after successfully hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2010 is looking forward to host one more big event in a step to enhance sporting culture in India.
Despite so many controversies & corruption charges during Commonwealth Games 2010, the games did go well & the infrastructure is in place to host an international event.
The hosts for the next three Asian Games -Jakarta (Indonesia, 2018), Hangzhou (China, 2022) and Nagoya (Japan, 2026) -have already been finalised & it will be interesting to see which countries will come against India for the Asian Games 2030 Bid.
“We have the infrastructure ready and can host an event like Asian Games in any point of time. Unless we host a big event like this, we won’t be able to generate interest among our athletes and attract sponsors to support our players,” a source close to the developments, told TOI. Apart from Goel and Ramachandran; Injeti Srinivas, director general of Sports Authority of India and Inder Damjia, joint secretary, sports, also attended the meeting.
The ministry also advised the IOA to write to the government seeking approval for the bidding of the Asian Beach Games in 2020.
