India make history by winning 3 Olympic Quota in Sailing. Nethra Kumanan (Laser Radial), Vishnu Saravanan (Laser Standard class) an KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar (49er) book Olympics quota.
Vishnu Seravanan confirm Quota in Laser Standard Class after winning the medal race today. He need to finish ahead of Thailand in Medal race but he confirmed quota by winning it. Singapore finish with other quota in this event.
Nethra Kumananya who has already book the quota yesterday finish 6th today and 2nd overall below Nederlands who was only competing for Medals here as quota was available for African and Asian countries. Harshita and Ramya other Indian in event finish 5th and 6th as they were 5th and 8th in medal races respectively. Hong Kong won other quota in this event.
This will be first time In Olympic History India will have representation in more then 1 event
Previously in 2008 Summer Olympics Nachhatar Singh Johal represented India in Mixed Finn event. Before that Malav Shroff & Sumeet Patel in 2004 (in 49er Class), F. Tarapore ( in 470 Class) in 1992 with Cyrus Cama, in 1988 with Kelly Rao and in 1984 with Dhruv Bhandari had represented India in sailing. In 1972 Soli Contractor and A.A. Basith had represented India in Flying Dutchman Class, event which is no longer a Olympic event.
KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar won Olympic quota in 49er event. With only one quota available in event It was brilliant performance from Indian sailer who finished on top . Indian pair was 5th best according to ranking behind Thailand, Hong Kong ,two pair from oman and China despite that Indian pair put up brilliant display.
With this India has now won 62 quota across 10 sports.
