  1. Badminton

  • HS Prannoy stuns 3 times Olympic medallist 

3 time Olympic silver medallist & No. 1 seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia was beaten in straight sets by World ranked 25 HS Prannoy in a convincing manner.

Prannoy looked in stunning form as he gave no opportunity to his opponent to come back in the match & defeats the World no.3 Lee Chong Wei in straight sets by 21-10, 21-18.

He will take on Chen Long or Jonatan Christie in the Quarter-finals

  • Kidambi Srikanth upsets No.4 seeded Jan O Jorgensen

In one more upset of the day, World ranked 22 Kidambi Srikanth defeated No.4 seed in the tournament Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in nail-biting three setter encounter.

Kidambi who stared the proceedings in a positive manner by taking the first set by 21-15, couldn’t hold his nerves in the second & lost the set to Jorgensen by 20-22 to take the match into decider set.

Deciding set saw both the players struggling to sneak into each other’s defence & it was Indian who had the last laugh as he took the final & deciding set by 21-16.

He will be up against Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang in the Quarter-finals.

        2. Wrestling

Indian Junior Wrestlers made the nation proud after winning two medals at the ongoing Asian Junior Wrestling Championship.

Sajan won the Bronze medal in 74 kg Greco-Roman category after defeating Minto MAEDA of Japan by Fall . Sunil competing in 84 kg category got the better of his Chinese opponent by 8-0 to clinch another Bronze for India.

           3. Fencing

Bhavani Devi who won the Gold recently in the Turnoi Satellite Fencing Championship at Reykjavik (Iceland) continue her impressing form in Asian Fencing Championship.

She reached the quarter-finals in Women’s Sabre Individual category after defeating Japanese opponent by 15-10 but fell short in quarters after loosing the match to Korean Kim Jiyoen by 6-15.

No other Indians were able to shine today. Men’s Epee Individual & Women’s Foil Individual will get underway from tomorrow.

             4. Hockey

Hockey World League Semi-final

India made a promising start to their campaign at Hockey World League Semi-final by defeating Scotland in a dominating way by 4-1.

Scotland drew the first blood by scoring the goal at 4th minute & shocked Indian team by taking the lead.

India will next play Canada on the 17th of June again at 6-30pm in HWL Semi-final.
