The three-day cycling extravaganza, the Track Asia Cup 2019, beginning today which will showcase top quality competitive track cycling.
The competition is part of the World Cup, World Championships and also serves as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Ronaldo Laitonjam who was part of Junior world championship gold team was star of day 1 as he bags 2 Gold medals. First, he first helped junior men’s team to win the gold in sprint event and then back to finish the day with the top of metal in the 1 KM time trial.
More than 150 cyclists from Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, China, Myanmar, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Latvia and Slovakia, besides India, will be participating.
Triyasha Paul also won two gold medals on the opening day. She first teams up with Nikita Nisha in one side race to finish at the top of Junior women’s sprint event. Later Triyasha beat his own sprint team gold medalist partner Nisha to win 500 M time trial.
Venkappa Kengalgutti and Elangbam Singh opened the medal tally by capturing the silver and bronze medal respectively in the men’s junior 10km Scratch Race.
Mayuri Lute who runs under Sports Authority of India National Cycling Academy (SAINCA), won the gold medal in women’s senior trial 500m event.
Deborah Harold, along with team-mate Aleena Reji, won the bronze in the team sprint. This was Deborah’s last event in the women’s team sprint. She will henceforth race in the Omnium category which is a full day event of four disciplines.

Her main target is the Asian championships in Korea in October. “My target is Asian championships and Olympics 2024 in Omnium, I am working on my endurance for which I have to do 100km on two days in a week. Our biggest threat in Asian championships is Korea and in Olympics, every country gives you a stiff competition.”
Esow Alben’s debut in the senior category did not go as expected. He along with his team-mates won the bronze. He said, “Now I know I have to work harder to increase my level and excel in the senior level. I need to be stronger and tactically smarter,” he said.
Indian Pursuit team won silver medal as they lost to Malaysian team in Close Final. UAE won Bronze Medal.
A 34-member Indian team and an additional team drawn from Khelo India cyclists are participating in ongoing Track Asian Cup.
