When all eyes were locked up at U-20 World Champion & Record Holder Neeraj Chopra, Davinder Singh Kang prove the nation why he is a talent to look after ! The Javelin star made his way to the finals of World Athletics Championship on Thursday with his thunderous last throw of 84.22m .
Davinder Singh also known as “The king kang”, the name which is not so popular within Indians is making the international headlines. Despite suffering from the shoulder injury, the throw of massive 84.22m in the last attempt shows how mentally prepare the athlete is !
King Kang comes to the rescue for the Indian fans after World Youth Champion Neeraj Chopra failed to throw the automatic qualification mark (83m) in his three attempts.
Neeraj’s best throw of 82.26m could only sealed him a 14th place which ruled him out of the competition.
With the Indian star Neeraj already out, Indian participation at Finals look bleak but Punjab’s Davinder had other plans as King kang wanted to prove himself & he did so by booking his spot into the finals of World Athletics Championship.
Davinder Singh started his campaign on a bright note by throwing above 82+ in his first attempt but a slightly more was needed to book his spot in the finals. His second throw was below 83m ( automation Qualification mark) too that put him in a do or die situation with the last throw remaining.
In the last throw, Singh proved he can perform in the pressure too by throwing the Javelin to the massive 84+ which made him the 7th best in the competition !!
His qualification to finals is also special because in the tournaments like World Championship or Olympics, Indian fans have many few chances to see an Indian in the final & a guy like Davinder is certainly to watch out for because of the energy he possesses !
Germans as usual dominated the competition after Johannes Vetter threw a monsterous 91m in his first attempt to book his place in the finals & is quite assured of Gold too if he repeat his performance.
Final of Javelin throw is scheduled to be place on 12th August.
