Indian Football Team has won their second consecutive match of the Intercontinental Cup 2018 by defeating Kenya by 3-0 in front of full packed home crowd.
Sunil Chhetri, who was playing his 100th International match, made a heartfelt plea on Saturday to all the football fans to go watch India football matches in the stadiums. His plea did the trick as Intercontinental Cup match between India and Kenya at the Mumbai Football Arena on Monday was sold out.
Indian team made sure they didn’t disappoint the fans at all as the Blue Tigers dumped the mighty Kenyans by 3-0, with the captain scoring twice.
Sunil Chhetri drew the first blood for the team by scoring a penalty that went in despite the Kenyan keeper getting a hand to it. With this goal, Chhetri surpassed David Villa (59) to be on the 3rd position on the list of the highest active international goalscorers in football.
Just a couple of minutes later, Jeje Lalpekhlua doubled the Indian lead with a scorching finish from close range to put India ahead by 2-0.
However, Chhetri was not done yet and came back strongly to attack and did a delightful chip over the Kenyan keeper to score his second goal of the match and sealed the match for India by 3-0 with almost 10,000 people roaring the champion’s name.
The second goal of Indian captain ensured his 3rd position with 61 goals and is only behind Real Madrid and FC Barcelona superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who are on 81 and 64 goals, respectively.
With final place already confirmed, India will next play to New Zealand on 7th June of Intercontinental Cup 2018.
