The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced the official fixtures of Intercontinental Cup 2018 which consists of India, Chinese Taipei, kenya and New Zealand.

The governing body of World Football, FIFA have listed the fixtures under the friendlies segment and in the first match of the Cup, India will lock horns with Chinese Taipei on 1st June, 2018.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF), who hosted the first Intercontinental Cup in a tri-series format in 2017 (then known as Hero Tri-Nation Series) will change the format to a 4-team event followed by a final from June 1 to June 10 in the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai.

India won the previous edition by finishing on the top of the table after defeating Mauritius and playing a draw against St. Kitts and Nevis. However, this time it will be a difficult task for Blue Tigers to defend their title as higher ranked (80) New Zealand will give some strong fight to the hosts, Kenya (World ranked 111) and Chinese Taipei (World Ranked 121) can also give a threat to higher ranked teams.

Intercontinental Cup 2018 Fixtures

After Chinese Taipei, India will take on Kenya on June 4 and New Zealand in their last game of the regular stage on June 7. The top two teams in the end will be fighting to be crowned as champions in the final on June 10, 2018.

The timings and ticket details are yet to be declared.

Intercontinental Cup 2018 Fixtures are as follows (All matches will kick off at 8pm):

1 June 2018: India v Chinese Taipei

2 June 2018: Kenya v New Zealand

4 June 2018: India v Kenya

5 June 2018: Chinese Taipei v New Zealand

7 June 2018: India v New Zealand

8 June 2018: Chinese Taipei v Kenya

Most importantly, FIFA’s ratification means that the Cup will carry FIFA Friendly Ranking points which makes it more important for all the four teams. These crucial ranking points will push all the teams to send their best squad to India.

To prepare for the tournament, Kenya will be playing some crucial matches against Swaziland and Equatorial Ghana on May 25 and 28 respectively while India is practicing in the national team camp in Mumbai with a 30-man provisional squad.
