Manchester City eyeing Leicester defender to bolster their defensive options City eyeing Leicester defender to bolster their defensive options

Manchester City are eyeing up Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu as Pep Guardiola looks to bolster his defensive options following injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones.

The season might only be a few weeks old but already clubs across Europe are plotting for the January transfer window. With Aymeric Laporte having been ruled out for around six months with a nasty knee injury, Manchester City might be tempted into a move for another centre-back this January. Despite having missed out on Harry Maguire in the summer, Pep Guardiola’s gaze is still fixed on a burly Leicester defender. And no, we won’t be seeing Wes Morgan’s second coming as an elite title-inspiring force at the back for a different City.

The 23-year-old player, Brendan Rodgers’ın indispensable performances with the entering, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola’nın Çağlar’ı wanted to add to the staff was claimed.

City officials wanted to meet with Çağlar’s manager, while Guardiola’s team will make an offer for this January has not yet clarified.

Aymeric Laporte’un 6-month injury on a John Stones’u lost in January, the city wants to reinforce the stopper zone in January said.

However, Caglar and Leicester City at this stage at least until the end of the season wants to continue with the team was expressed.

It’s hard to be critical of Manchester City‘s exemplary recruitment strategy in recent years but a few eyebrows were raised this summer when the club decided against adding a central defender to their ranks.

Vincent Kompany‘s move to become player-manager at Anderlecht left Pep Guardiola with only Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolás Otamendi as natural centre-back options, so it would hardly have been a surprise if City, given their resources, dipped their toes into the transfer market.

Admittedly Fernandinho and Kyle Walker have the attributes to operate as makeshift central defenders, but it nonetheless felt a little shortsighted not to bulk out the Citizens’ backline ahead of the current campaign.

That reticence now has the potential to throw a spanner in the works of City’s season, after it emerged earlier this month that Laporte – arguably the club’s most accomplished defender – was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The player who has got Pep rubbing his palms giddily is Caglar Soyuncu, whose outstanding displays for Brendan Rodgers’ side have made Maguire’s £80m departure to Manchester United seem little more than a mild inconvenience. The 23-year-old has proved himself able to work the ball out from the back without gifting the ball to opposition forwards or playing ludicrous square passes to invisible teammates, so he could well be an upgrade on Nicolás Otamendi and John Stones. He cost Leicester £19m in the summer of 2018 so he won’t come cheap, mind.
