Rohan Bopanna along with his partner Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay defeated the World No. 1 team of Henri Kontinen/John Peers by 3-6, 6-3, 13-11 to enter semi-finals of Monte Carlo Masters. David Goffin too cause a upset in single competition by defeating Novak Djokovic in Quaters.
Indian Tennis Ace Rohan Bopanna & his partner Pablo came back strongly after loosing the first set from reigning Austraian Open Champions to win the match.
the Indo-Uruguayan combine were in diffucult position as they stared at multiple break points early on in the second set.But Bopanna and Cuevas managed to save all four of the break points and that became the turning point of the match.
In the match tie-break the No.1 seeds had a lead of 3-1 but the unseeded pair of Rohan & Pablo bounced back again to level the scores at 7-7. In a tense ending, the Indo-Uruguayan pair saw two of their match points getting erased as Kontinen and Peers raised their level each time. It was then Bopanna and Cuevas’ turn to save a match point following which they converted on their third match point.
Indo-Uruguayan pair is in great form as they defeated the 5th seeds of Raven Klaasen & Rajeev Ram too in the second round. They will be up against Romain Arneodo and Hugo Nys in the semi-finals of Monte Carlo Masters.
Goffin Upsets Novak Djokovic
The single competition also witnessed a upset as 10th seeded David Goffin defeated World no. 2 & Two-time Champion Novak Djokovic in a marathon match which lasted 2 hours 37 minutes.
Djokovic is not in his great form this week as he had played three three-set matches in a row. However, against David Goffin he secure an early break in the decider set but the Belgian bounced back incredibly well to send Djokovic home. Goffin even squandered a number of break points in a marathon sixth game that lasted over 10 minutes and let Djokovic build a 4-2 lead but the World no.13 hold his nerves & kept his rhythm to make a big upset.
In the other matches Spain's Rafael Nadal outplayed his opponent D. Schwartzman to win the match by 6-4, 6-4 while L. Pouille of France & A. Ramos of Spain won their respective Quater-finals matches of Monte Carlo Masters respectively.
