India looked more than impressive today as they hammered Malaysia by 6-2 in their second game of Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2017 hockey in Dhaka.
India had an impressive run of form in the group stages as they dominated their opponents and were able to qualify for the next round with an unbeaten record, but South Korea almost broke that streak. Malaysia defeated Pakistan 3-2 in the other Super 4 encounter on Wednesday.
India clearly upped their game from last night, the passes were finding the targets and they look dangerous everytime they move forward in attack. Malaysia unable to deal with India’s fast forwards.
Akashdeep drew the first blood for India after smashing the ball into the net to put India into the lead by 1-0.
Malaysia started the proceedings of 2nd quarter on a bright note with two back to back penalty corners but failed to capitalise the chances. Harmanpreet hammers home the second goal for India from penalty corner.
Few minutes later, SK Uthappa smashes another goal to put India ahead of Malaysia by 3-0.
At Half Time, it was India who was leading Malaysia by 3-0, Gurjant Singh enhanced the lead for India in the fourth quarter & put Malaysia totally to the back foot.
India was totally dominating the proceedings & S.V Sunil’s dive gave India’s lead another boost up to lead Malaysia by 5-0.
Finally, Malaysia made the Penalty corner count as Razie Rahim found a consolation goal to decrease the gap by 1-5. India slowed down the pace of the game in the final quarter but found another goal in the dying minutes of the match to dump Malaysia by 6-2.
India’s last Super 4 match is against arch-rivals Pakistan, whom they have defeated 3-1 in the pool stages. As per the tournament rules, the top two teams from the Super 4 stage will qualify for the final to be held on Sunday.
