Indian tennis star Rohan Bhopanna won ATP tour Qatar Open title along with his Dutch partner Wesley koolhof. Qatar open is ATP 250 tour event and has prize money of USD 1,465,260.
Rohan Bhopanna become third Indian after Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi to won Qatar open title. Due of Paes and Bhupathi have won Qatar open title in 1998. Leander has along finish runner up along with his Czech partner Martin Damm in 2007.
On the route to Qatar open title Bhopanna and Koolhof lost only one set that too in final. The Indian Dutch pair beat Luke Bambridge and Santiago Gonzalez by 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the final in Doha.
Earlier today they knocked out second seeded Henri Kontinen of Finland and Franko Skugor of Serbia in straight set by 5-7 2-6 to sails into final of Qatar open.
Semifinal was set set to played yesterday but due to heavy rain here in Qatar Semifinal got postponed to today due to which Indian Dutch pair got forced to play two match today.
Bambridge and Gonzalez has already played their semifinal yesterday where they beat Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen and Tim Puetz of Germany by 2-6 6-2 10-4.
Bopanna and his Dutch partner earlier storm into the semi-finals with a straight-set Victory over Swiss-American pair Stan Wawrinka and Frances Tiafoe by 6-3, 6-4.
Rohan Bhopanna is currently top rank Indian double player he came into this tournament after recovering from a shoulder injury. He is rank 42 in ATP ranking.
Rohan Bhopanna is expected to move to 37 in ATP ranking after this title. This is his 19th career double title. Bhopanna has won French open mix double grand slam title along with Gabriela Dabrowski in 2017, he is yet to win men double gramd slam title. He has won four ATP 1000 double title.
Rohan Bhopanna eyeing his third straight olympic
The Doha Open is the first international tournament for the tennis sensation in the year of the Summer Olympics, which could be his third successive Olympics if he qualifies.
Bhopanna is focusing on individual ranking to make cut to his third straight olympic. A total of 32 teams qualify for the doubles competition at the quadrennial event. Ten places are reserved for players in the top 10 of the doubles ranking, who, in turn, can partner with compatriots ranked in the top 300.
