Saina Nehwal, Sindhu and Kidambi move into Badminton Asia Championship quarter-finals

Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu easily move to the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championship as they defeated their Chinese opponents in straight games.Top seed Kidambi Srikanth and world number 10 HS Prannoy also move to last eight stage in men’s single.

2018 Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Saina Nehwal booked her place in the last-eight after thrashing Gao Fangjie of China by 21-18, 21-8 in 40 minutes.Nehwal will now face Korea’s Lee Jang Mi, who upset fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon by 19-21, 21-17, 21-15.

Third-seed Sindhu dominant the match as she clinched an easy 21-12, 21-15 win over her Chinese opponent Chen Xiaoxin in a clash that lasted 44 minutes.Olympics Silver Medalist will take on Sung Ji Hyun of Korea in the quarter-finals.

Kidambi booked his place to quarter-final without breaking much sweat as Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent retired in the opening game.Vincent was trailing by 2-7.The 25-year-old will face three-time Olympic silver medallist and 2018 Commonwealth Games champion Lee Chong Wei on Friday.Lee Chong Wei won CWG gold by defeating kidambi in final. he beat Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting by 16-21, 21-9, 21-11 in pre-QF.

Prannoy, who had reached the quarterfinals at All England Championship, bounced back from a game down to take out a difficult 16-21 21-14 21-12 win over Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu Wei.Prannoy, who missed out of a medal at the Commonwealth Games, will meet second seed Son Wan Ho of Korea.

B Sai Praneeth was the only Indian singles player to lose in round of 16 when he went down 21-12, 21-12 against former world champion Chen Long of China.

In double MR Arjun and Shlok Ramchandran lost against top seeds Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen after a good fight by 21-11, 21-19 while Poorvisha S Ram and J Meghna lost their women’s doubles second round match by 21-8, 21-9 against Thailand seventh seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai.
